Marshall Said:

Is nodule reaccurance prevelant after voice surgery (laryngoscopy by laser)?

We Answered:

You need to get checked again. You should have a biopsy done if you have re-growth. You might have done some kind of damage to your body and in it's weakened state, singing might have really damaged your vocal chords. Hard to say what's going on but go get checked out. You can't go on like that.

I have pain and discomfort when I speak. Does anyone know what is wrong?? I need help immediately!!!!?

We Answered:

I'd be pretty worried too! As far as I know, the ENT is the guy to see for this kind of symptoms. Choose a new one, at a teaching hospital known for its excellence.

This ENT seems inept. He certainly didn't help much, and your symptoms are a lot worse. You need a new exam with a new dr. Maybe he'll send a scope down and look around.

Feel better!!

Questions about Vocal Cord Nodules and Treatment for them?

We Answered:

The most conservative approach, and typically the first option offered, is voice therapy. Surgery isn't optimal, as doing a cord-stripping takes off the gelatinous layer covering the vocal cords. That layer is what gives you your falsetto. Scarring may prevent it from coming back.
Therapy duration is dependent on three things; the size of the nodules, the patient's compliance with the treatment regimen, and the patient's understanding/use of vocal hygiene as taught by the speech pathologist.
If you comply, your voice should be fine by July.
