What Is Speech Therapy For Kids
Sara Said:
How do I begin group speech therapy with elementary students? We Answered:
You already hit it on the head. Start by continuing with their current goals, schedules, and activities. Begin informal assessments immediately. Follow shortly with some concrete, and perhaps, formal assessments. This will help you to improve what is already in place. Give it time. As the data comes in, you will know what the students need.Andre Said:
Can someone help me with my speech/writing problems? Thanks [Long]?We Answered:
You seem to know and describe your problems very well. I would suggest first that you see a physician and have a thorough check up. Perhaps a neurologist can help./Have you tried speaking in front of a mirror or recording what you say?
Elaine Said:
can any one offer advice for me?We Answered:
have you tried talking with the (pre?)school about it?kids can be very cruel without realising it at times, but at that young age they do not know any different. The school should be taking a lot of responsibility for this as they should be encouraging her to play and encouraging the other children to interact with her and involve her in games and activities. if they are not - change school and report them to ofsted! this is THEIR responsibility and they must promote inclusive activities and encourage the other children to be kind to each other and to not judge or bully.
on another note, if she is having problems with her legs as well, have you thought about taking her to your local Riding for the Disabled? at three years old she is just old enough to start riding!
yes.... i know there is the stigma of 'disabled', but these people are really good and are trained to deal with a wide variety of disabilities including ADHD. the riding would give your daughter enjoyment and a sense of achievement. but at the same time it will stimulate her muscles in her legs. she will be interacting with other children with a wide variety of 'abilities' who do not judge others or make nasty comments. also it will give her something to talk about and share at school which may get other kids interested in talking and playing to her (plus if you talk nicely to the RDA centre they may be able to let one of her new friends ride with her as a one off treat)
the telephone number for Riding for the Disabled is 0845 658 1082 and they will put you in touch with your local group.
Theodore Said:
speech delayed child question?We Answered:
I know how you feel. I have a three year old that is very very delayed. He is a year and a half behind in speech. I know my son is smart too. He also has a sensory disorder. We've tried the sign language.. and it's a no go... so it hasn't done a THING for us. He has been receiving speech therapy within the last six months and it hasn't helped (though it hasn't been as often as it should be). I find it heartbreaking to see other three year olds talk to their parents and know your child can't. I've done everything I can, but hopefully this preschool program will help my son. It's for kids with disabilities that need help.Hang in there.. I'm still working on my success story. let me know if you need to talk .. you can email me on my profile.
