Alternatives To Knee Replacement Surgery

Alberto Said:

What alternative health options are there instead of knee replacements?

We Answered:

Check out MBT's! It's a shoe that helps decrease the stress on your knees and hips. It also tones up your muscle all the way up to your abs. And increases your posture. Also increases circulation to your legs.

I've had many people tell me that it's helped them walk again. Lots of nurses and other professionals that have to walk a lot wear them. Along with people who have had knee surgeries.

Believe me, just go to their website to find a store near you. Even just trying them on makes most people want to buy them.

I had a microfracture surgery in July and a second scope in November to clean it up. I am having pain again?

We Answered:

If the doc suggested knee replacement, then unfortunately it probably is the better choice, if you're not certain then check with a different specialist, but I can't imagine the pain you're in, so I hope you find a solution.

Kim Said:

anyone know of an alternative for knee replacement surgery?

We Answered:

If it's bone against bone there is no other treatment.
I would get a 2nd opinion.

I know someone who just got her knee replaced & she was standing the 1st day. She was in rehab for 1 week & is now doing physical therapy 3X/week & does exercises 2X/day. She can use stairs & she's going to buy a stationery recumbent bike.
She needs the other knee done too...but she only has 2 months to recover so she's waiting till next year for the other knee.
She may get injections in her bad knee in the meantime & take NSAIDs.

Good luck

alternative to knee replacement.?

We Answered:

I have problems with my knees but I'm only 39. I'm termed as "a coper" cos I'm trying to manage them without an operation. It sounds like yours are bad if the doctor is suggesting a full knee replacement, much worse than mine.

The things I've tried are the following:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Treat-Your-Own-K…
<ideas on exercises/stretches/etc that might help>

Fish oil tablets

Glucosamine
http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/herbsvit…

Copper bracelets

Knee brace

That's about it - all with varying degrees. It really depends how much pain you are in. You should try to get a second opinion from a different doctor.

Any ideas to my swollen knee??

We Answered:

I am experiencing some similar symptoms. I had my 11th knee surgery Sep 06, the 12th Dec 06 and the 13th Mar 07. I had all of the cartilage cells implanted everywhere in my knee in the hopes of growing new cartilage since all of mine was gone. I have been having complications. I think you might have had some bleeding in the joint. The blood coagulates and as it reabsorbs into the tissues, it causes bruising. The swelling is because fresh blood flows to the area to try and heal it. That is what is going on with me. I have had this happen after all 3 surgeries and I have had similar symptoms as you. Obviously I am not 100% sure if this is what is going on with you, but it is my best guess. I wish I could give you some advice as to how to relieve your pain and swelling. You sound like you are doing all the right things. Massage therapy, PT and ice are all great. Maybe you should have a scope done to see what is going on in there. Also, get a second opinion and MRI. Ask your doctor about the procedure I had. It is called ACI -autologous chondrocyte implantation. I had this to avoid a knee replacement or at least postpone it. You definitely have other options besides a replacement. If you want to talk more about it e-mail me at oma00@hotmail.com (those are zeros on the end). Sorry if I wasn't more help, but I feel your pain.
