Appeal the approval... Keep at it until they approve it.

http://www.breasthealthonline.com is a huge message board where there is a section for you to talk about trying to get an approval and assistance from others who have experienced the same issues.

Marian Said:

I am considering plastic surgery. An arm lift to be exact. Has anyone had this procedure done?

We Answered:

brachioplasty

we have to be patient, if we wanna be beautiful. my mum says that. the pain I think it wont be unbearable. you will get something for the pain. recovery time is weeks, 6 weeks or more, it depends. from what I saw it must be wonderful or at least it looks a lot more better. and the price also depends. every person is different, we are all special, so in beauty surgery everyone cant get the same procedure. some are small, some are big, some are long, some are short. it always depends.

Ethel Said:

How do i control the oder from my armpit post surgery and cannot lift the arm?

We Answered:

That must be frustrating. Here's something to try. First, keep in mind that there are two steps to controlling the odor. Keeping the area clean and minimizing bacteria growth is the 1st step - then, using an antiperspirant/deodorant is the 2nd step - the antiperspirant will minimize additional wetness (which inhibits the growth of the bacteria) and the deodorant will mask (to a degree) what odor does develop.

So, for the first step (with someone's help preferably), you can use rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol to clean the area. You can use a thin washcloth or thin facial towel, or even a bunch of q-tips if necessary, soaked in alcohol. If you don't have help, you can try putting the alcohol soaked cloth on the end of something long like a pen or the straight end of a wooden spoon so that you can use your good hand to force the cloth under/through your armpit area, repeating as needed.

Then, you can do something similar to get the antiperspirant/deodorant on - first smearing some (preferably the cream version) onto a clean cloth and putting it through the same way as the alcohol soaked cloth. An alternative is to get a spray deodorant and (covering your face!) spray into what little opening you can manage without hurting yourself.

Good luck and I hope you have a speedy and full recovery from your surgery!

Joe Said:

Can I recieve Short term disability for Arm surgery with a recovery time of 4 weeks?

We Answered:

Frankly, disability policies are not absolutely standardized, so you will have to read the terms of your policy, to see if it would qualify. MOST of the time, that TYPE of time off would qualify - but many plans have a 30 day wait, meaning, you wouldn't be off long enough, to qualify.

So, you have to look at the wait period for your plan - is it one week, or two, or four, or something else - and then you'll have your answer.

Assuming, of course, that you HAVE any disability coverage at all.

Harold Said:

Why can't I lift my arm after having surgery on it?

We Answered:

Ray makes an important point...if there was damage to the rotator cuff, this could be a reason for not being able to lift the arm. Even when the rotator cuff is surgically repaired, it often takes about 5 months to be able to raise the arm over head.

There are other considerations such as radial nerve damage (common after humeral fractures) and to a lesser extent the axillary nerve, but also just the very fact that you had an injury is enough to explain the inability to raise the arm overhead.

When we are injured, our body has a mechanism to protect us by shutting down some of the muscular function until the injury has healed. This is still a fairly fresh injury and the repair process may still be on going...as the fracture heals, with the proper rehabilitation, the muscular function will start to return.

The type of injury you had is consistent with a prolonged rehabilitation...I would expect a few more months will pass by before you can regain overhead function (and that is provided that the radial and axillary nerves are intact as well as the rotator cuff.)

Best wishes.

Breast lift or other plastic surgery questions?

We Answered:

If you have an irrational fear of vomiting, then I don't know how you are going to tolerate the extreme pain that follows breast surgery.

DON'T DO IT!

Edit: I'm telling what my friend told me who had breast surgery. She told me that if she'd known how much it was going to hurt she wouldn't have had it done...and yes, she WAS taking her pain medication.

I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just telling you what my friend told me who had breast surgery.

Edit 2: All phobias are irrational. They are defined as an irrational fear of certain situations. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phobia)
