Had L hip arthroscopic surgery on Jan. 17th 5 days ago. Given a nerve block in groin that numbed my entire leg?We Answered:
I had a siatic and femoral nerve block in my left leg twice before surgeries. The first time I got very spooked when I hadn't regained the feeling back in my thigh when they told me I should have. Sometimes when they put the block in, they can nick the nerve causing the area to remain numb, longer. I'm not sure where you're located but I saw someone at the UPenn Hospital in Philadelphia who specialized in just this.My advice would be not to stress yourself out over it. Definitely mention it to your doctor but chances are they'll just keep an eye on it. I had major surgery in August of 2010 and had the nerve blocks. It's been almost six months and in some spots of my leg I am still numb. It takes time to come back and it's a very tedious and long process.
You might want to wait and see how it feels over the next week or so, because they nerve testing tests are very painful. I cried like a baby, they basically have to taser you multiple times to hit all the nerves. Not fun at all.
I hope it gets better for you soon! Good Luck!

Surgically Repaired Hip Pops and is painful? We Answered:
I have hip displasia and there is nothing in the supplements that will treat this. I'm guessing that you need a hip replacement.. Lets hope that Obama can get health care through so that pre-existing conditions will be covered. The most useful thing you can do at this point is contact all the politicians you can and tell your story.Carla Said:
why do i have knee pain....?We Answered:
i experienced knee pain a few months ago as well and went for some xrays. the dr. said i had some joint effusion and that i needed to stop running everyday and take some motrin. Joint effusion is basically some extra fluid around the knee joint. My knee eventually stopped hurting and im back to running now. with your medical history concerning your hip, this may not be whats going on with your knee.Nathaniel Said:
I have signigicant arthritis in my right hip. It was discovered through arthroscopic surgery.?We Answered:
I had both hips replaced in separate surgeries at age 59 because of severe advanced osteoarthritis. Since I could barely walk by the time I had the first one and since I can now walk miles, have no limp, need no pain meds, and use no walking aids, I consider total hip replacement sort of "miracle surgery" and am delighted with my outcome. Total replacement is major surgery and rehabilitation takes some work and patience but I consider that it was totally worth it. I was fast on my way to a wheel-chair-bound existence. Now I have an active life and can do whatever I need to.If you have specific questions about the procedure and what it involves, you might consider asking additional specific questions as they arise.
Another option that has become a reality in the US in the last couple of years is a procedure called hip resurfacing. The chief difference between resurfacing and total replacement is that the head of the femur is not removed in resurfacing. Instead it is contoured and capped with a metal cover (that's the "resurfacing" part of the procedure). The procedure has been done abroad for years but only recently has the device been approved for use in the US by the FDA. When I had my replacements, resurf was not a practical option for me since I'd have had to either go abroad or participate in a US clinical trial. Anyhow the theory behind resurfacing is that it leaves the femoral head intact for an anticipated, later total replacement. This may be an advantage for younger patients. You might inquire about the procedure and whether you would qualify for it. At 50 you might be considered "younger".
If you don't qualify or for some other reason you opt for total replacement, be assured that it is a tried and true "fix" for arthritic hips. It's been done for a very long time and it really does get people back on their feet.
