Arthroscopic Knee Surgery Recovery

Christina Said:

What are some knee surgery recovery tips?

We Answered:

Do your physical therapy, very important!
I did physical therapy on land and the water.
Sleeping was hard, because when you turn or shift your leg as you sleep, you wake yourself up. I used a LOT of pillows all around me to restrict movement. It can be hard to sleep at first.
I also had a prescription for a CPM (Continuous Passive Motion). It can be delivered to your house and set up on your bed. It gradually gets your knee moving.
I had to also get a shower stool so I could sit down and take a shower. Standing up and sitting down was not easy at first. You may also need a toilet seat extension so your toilet seat is not to low for you.
After Physical therapy I always had an ice pack on my knee. The pain medicine does help but only to a certain extent. Also, when you leave the hospital you will have a pair of crutches...and you will hate them. LOL!
The process can be tedious and frustrating at times, but if you do what you are suppose to, you will be fine.

Recovery time from Arthroscopic Knee Surgery?

We Answered:

I just had arthroscopic surgery on my knee on Wend last week. My doc had to clean up a bunch of junk and do another lateral release on my left knee. It is now Monday and I am back at work (granted I have a desk job) Usually your doc will let you go back to a more physical job in 2 weeks after the stitches come out.
I am weird one and being that this was my 8th knee surgery and 7th scope done on my knees I only used the crutches for 1 day and just used a cane after that.

Arthroscopic knee surgery done, how long till recovery left?

We Answered:

I had my ACL repaired some years ago and during the surgery my kneecap got cracked in half. For the next few days I pretty much was stuck in bed, only able to get up and go to the bathroom, and that was with help from someone. After about the 5th day I was able to get up and walk some, but I was in a hip to ankle brace that did not allow me to bend my knee at all. About 3 weeks after the surgery my brace got unlocked and I was able to start bending my knee at a 90degree angle, it wasn't long after that when I just started "running" all over the place.

It will take some time for you to regain strength in that leg/knee. I hope you are going to PT because that would be a great help to you. Call your doctor, talk with him, he can give you better information than I can.

Good Luck!

Recovery time for Arthroscopic knee surgery?

We Answered:

Knee surgery, even when successful, takes a long time to heal. Two weeks is nothing. I'm talking months. The knee is the poorest designed joint in the body, which is why it is the most commonly injured. Don't be restless and don't put too much stress on that knee, and you'll be OK but never the same as before.
