Bladder Lift Surgery

Recovery after bladder lift surgery? We Answered:
Plan for your care and recovery after the operation. Find someone to drive you home after the surgery. Allow for time to rest and try to find people to help you with your day-to-day duties.Follow your health care provider's instructions about not smoking before and after the procedure. Smokers heal more slowly after surgery. They are also more likely to have breathing problems during surgery. For this reason, if you are a smoker, you should quit at least 2 weeks before the procedure. It is best to quit 6 to 8 weeks before surgery. Also, your wounds will heal much better if you do not smoke after the surgery.
You may stay in the hospital about 2 to 6 days. The catheter may remain in your bladder 2 to 6 days or until your bladder starts working normally again. You may be constipated during this time.
During the first 4 weeks after the operation, you may have some smelly, sometimes bloody drainage from your vagina.
After you leave the hospital, avoid all heavy activity such as lifting for the first 6 to 8 weeks. Then follow your provider's recommendations for gradually increasing your activity.
Ask what other steps you should take and schedule follow-up visits with your health care provider.

How painful is the bladder lift surgery in women? I have to have that at 44! ?We Answered:
I didn't have it done, but my mom did a few years ago. It really wasn't that bad. If I remember correctly we brought her home the same day it was done.I remember her saying how sore her legs and hips were from the twisted position they had her in to do the surgery. But as far as pain from the surgery itself, it wasn't bad at all. That might have been the surgery where she had to have a catheter in for a few days but she recovered quickly.
Even if you have a low pain tolerance, they will provide plenty of pain killers! Good luck with your surgery :)

Have you ever had a bladder lift surgery? Did you have to re-teach your bladder when it was time to go?We Answered:
It really depends on your age and why you had the surgery. If it was because of incontinence, it is a possibility that you will indeed have to re-teach your bladder when it is time to urinate. If you have problems with neuropathy,( nerve damage), in other parts of your body, this may well effect the normal function of the bladder. If you are overweight or if you were overweight is the past this may have caused problems with the bladder functions. Sometimes, but not always, many women will experience bladder spasms after having this surgery and depending on which kind of bladder lift surgery you had performed also makes a big difference. With the new techniques being performed these days, a surgery like this may only take 10 to 15 minutes to perform , Whereas 10 to 15 years ago, this might require a lengthy stay in the hospital and a long recuperation at home.
If you are having the bladder spasms , you should report this to your Urologist. There are new medications on the market now which stop the spasms.
You might try going to the bathroom every 2 hours, be sure to wear some sort of bladder protection. I figured if you were posting this question, you may have had some leakage problems.
I would also keep a journal as to how often I have accidents as well as how often the urge hits. I would even make a note as to how much urine you are losing each time you urinate.
A normal bladder can hold as much as 300 cc, which is roughly about 10 ounces.
Next time you visit your doctor, take the journal with you. This will help him to determine what medications, if any, you might need.

I had bladder surgery and will never be able to lift more than 25 pounds again...how do i tone up?We Answered:
Ask your doctor about using bands to work out. Light bands add a little resistance to your work out without adding to much weight. High reps and low weight work for me.Ashley Said:
Discharge following hysterectomy and bladder lift surgery? We Answered:
I had a hysterectomy about 5 years ago. I was lucky to have very minor discharge after but was told it could go on up to 6 weeks. If it is very abnormal and unusual visit your doctor. I didn't need estrogen so I can not comment on that. Good luck.Jeanne Said:

I had surgery almost 4 weeks ago to lift my bladder that had fallen...?We Answered:
i had that surgery too, but opted out of the sling method due to what you are describing. That is a complication that they see. I had the old fashioned method done where they tack it up with sutures. I went home with a catheter for a few days then they removed it and I peed like normal and never had a problem. I wish you luck. Is there any chance they can remove the sling and do the other procedure I described? I know it would be more surgery, but maybe it would correct the problem. You don't want to be stuck with a catheter.
