Broken Jaw Surgery

Velma Said:

IAnyone have any pics or info on jaw breaking surgery?

We Answered:

I work in the operating room and I can probably help you if you know name of the procedure you are having done. There are many different surgeries. Your oral surgeon must have written it down somewhere for you.

Douglas Said:

recent jaw surgery, titanium plate is visible?

We Answered:

Yes, it is to be conserned as it can be a way for infection to spread to your jaw bone.
It is not difficult to cover it up with a graft.
Now there no chance of gum growing over ir as already 6 months are over.
Consult your surgeon

Hugh Said:

My boyfriend just got beat up really bad and his jaw was broken and he had emergency surgery?

We Answered:

Crush his meds and put them in a glass of liquid that he can drink with a straw. (Suspect he got liquid hydro or oxy codone). Can drink fluids through a straw, right?

Can get out the board games...and puzzles. Checkers, Monopoly, Scrabble, Backgammon, Poker....etc.

Reminder: Do remind him that his pain meds have the potential for causing him constipation; especially since he is on a liquid diet and cannot consume the fruits and vegetables necessary for roughage and good bowel support.

Nicholas Said:

How long does a surgically broken jaw take to heal?

We Answered:

You're looking at 4-6 weeks of healing. Not sure about the wiring shut. They try not to do that if it can be avoided, but being an actual break and not a crack, they may wire it for a few weeks.
I suggest you talk to him again and find out all of the details of the surgery and healing time/process.
