Cardiac Bypass Surgery

Brandy Said:

what are all the possible complications of an asthmatic after cardiac bypass surgery?

We Answered:

The primary risks are due to surgery and the complications that accompany it. The bypasses can close, spasm, bleed, tamponade, and the list goes on. As for her lung status, she may be hard to wean off the ventilator and, if prone to pneumonia, could develop complications once she DOES get off the ventilator. Good luck, and tell her to QUIT SMOKING!!

cardiac surgery bypass?

We Answered:

I had a bypass type surgery done about 3 months ago. It was a traditional open heart procedure. I am assuming since there are 3 blockages that the open chest is the only way to go.

Recovery wasn't too bad for me. I had to take pretty heavy pain meds. for the first 3 weeks, but was able to taper them off and not need anything by week 6. I went back to work after 6 weeks also. There will be a few restrictions as first, such as no driving and no lifting.

Good luck to your friend!

minimum weight of a patient who requires triple cardiac bypass surgery?

We Answered:

And you are in luck, because I'm a cardiologist. I have never heard of a minimum weight limit for a bypass.

Walter Said:

I had cardiac bypass surgery 5 months ago and I am still in a lot of pain.?

We Answered:

lightning bolts, tingling, pin prick sensations, and burning occur when the nerves start to grow back. Not everyone has problems like this, but its normal for nerves to heal very slowly.

Some of the chest discomfort, breathing pain, and pain when turning the head are things you should talk to your doc about. Maybe some of the ribs have not healed properly or maybe you need some specialized physical therapy.

Little is known about the use of private prayer following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Using information from a computerized database and responses to two questionnaires, this study gathered retrospective information from a sample of CABG patients (N = 151) about post-CABG emotional health, religious activities, social support, and noncardiac chronic conditions. The majority of patients (68%) reported that they used private prayer to cope following CABG. A path model found that the use of prayer to cope was associated with better postoperative emotional health. The predictors of the use of prayer differed across patient age groups. Older patients (over age 65) were more likely to pray if religion were important to them, whereas younger patients (under age 65) were more likely to pray if they had lower incomes, better preoperative health, and more education.

Mike Said:

how does it feel after a cardiac bypass surgery?

We Answered:

I'm assuming you are wondering how YOU might feel after bypass, not specifically "it"...whatever "it" is!
My pop had 7 bypasses, and he sd where they sawed the breastbone apart didnt hurt, the only thing that hurt was where they pulled the veins in the legs.
Make sure you follow ALL of the aftercare--ESP the raising up of the legs...And do all of the exercises and therapy.
Piece of cake, dad said. He never knew how bad he felt BEFORE surgery until he felt so much better AFTER surgery!

Curtis Said:

my mother had a failed cardiac bypass surgery.CABG.any other mode of treatment is possible. srinikat9@gmail.co

We Answered:

I do not understand what you mean by failed CABG. Had you given some more details I would have suggested other possible treatment or medications. You must be aware of the facts about CABG. However, which I would like to inform you here again-

CABG is Cardiac Artery Bypass Grafts. It is a surgical procedure in which one or more blocked coronary arteries are bypassed by a blood vessel graft to restore normal blood flow to the heart. These grafts usually come from the patient's own arteries and veins located in the leg, arm, or chest.

Before doing this surgical procedure the doctors would have done an angiogram and assessed the position completely. Even if your mother has the tendency of getting blocks again, generally the Grafts made will work for a minimum period of 5 years at least. By regularly taking blood thinning medications like Asprin and cholesterol control medicines of Vastatin and by avoiding fat the grafts should work for even more number of years.

When your mother had already CABG no other treatment be tried and you can consult the cardiologist again and have treatment. I think she should become alright.

Here for your information I would like to inform you that I had a CABG X 4 surgery in 1990 and then again a CABG X 3 surgery in 2002 (after a gap of 13 years) and now I am doing alright. -
