Curious about the recovery time for having carpal tunnel release surgery? We Answered:
You should discuss this with your doctor, as the doctor knows your specific condition and prognosis. Expect not to use your hand for anything at all for a couple of weeks.Frances Said:
Scar from Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery - is it normal? We Answered:
Yes, this is normal. The incision for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome goes across the natural lines in the skin, which ,makes scarring somewhat worse. It will fade in time...remember, you can not tell how bad a scar will be until it has been 1 year since you were cut. Also, use sunscreen and keep it covered to minimize the scar. Good Luck!Wallace Said:
What kind of pain meds are given after open carpal tunnel release surgery? We Answered:
While in surgery they give you a nerve block. This is where they put local anesthetic up in the armpit nerves. Also local is put into the surgery site.
So initially there is no pain.
You may be lucky to be given a small dose of Morphine in Recovery, just after surgery. But with the local in, you won't have any pain except from the injection sites.
You will be given paracetamol and maybe some Tramadol to take for a few days at home.
Keep on with your pain meds with the time directions, even if you have very little pain. If you allow your pain to get too bad before you take the pain medication, it is very hard to get on top of your pain and controlling it.
Also allowing your arm to rest up on a pillow in bed helps. Keeping it up in the sling relieves the discomfort also.
I've had the surgery and it's not terribly painful, just uncomfortable.

When to get a second Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery? We Answered:
I don't think you shoud do it again. I have avoided surgery by taking a strong B multi vitamin every day, sleeping with the wrist splint, occasional massage, and doing wrist exercisesKatherine Said:

My dr. is not talking about carpal tunnel release surgery and I want it and I am in pain, what should I do?We Answered:
Have you had nerve conduction tests EMG/NCS????...be thankful you have a DR who doesnt want to rush into surgery. It should be the last option. When you say pain killers,do you really mean anti-inflammatories..these are appropriate. If you are only on narcotic pain pills, then that is not typical treatment.http://www.carpal-tunnel-symptoms.com
