Cataract Eye Surgery

Jessica Said:

How dangerous is it to keep postponing cataract eye surgery when it is needed?

We Answered:

I think you should get it done soon. I started to get a cataract shortly after I had a detached retina surgery and I had it removed as soon as possible. The new lens works great and I haven't had any problems with it since I had it done about 8 years ago. The fake lenses cannot focus up close like a real lens, but then I'm sure nowadays they should make them even better than mine.

Derek Said:

Can my mother have eye surgery and cataract implant surgery as well?

We Answered:

If she's not a canidate for Lasik and is wanting to have corrective eye surgery she can have what is called a Clearlesectomy which is very much like cataract surgery. If her surgeon recommends it then go for it! If she's uncomfortable she can always go in w/another physician for a second opinion. If she is not a candidate for corrective eye surgery (depending on her eyes) a Clearlensectomy may be the best be and way to go. With both procedures there is always a risk of inflammation or irritation but her dr will put her on several eye drops after the procedure to help ward off infection and swelling.

Best of luck!

Cataract eye surgery-So sensitive to light?

We Answered:

It's normal to be light sensitive after cataract surgery. For the duration that the cataracts were developing, your grandfather got used to less and less light entering his eyes. The lens in his eye was becoming opaque and light did not pass through as brightly as it does now. With the lens implant he is getting a great deal more light entering the eye and it will take awhile for him to get adjusted to that.

Jesus Said:

What is the percentage of losing your eyesight after doing cataract eye surgery?

We Answered:

its pretty much a slim to none chance of loosing your vision after a cataract surgery.

its one of the safest surgeries out there.

even if you have multiple serious eye problems like myself its not all that risky.
i've had 4 detached retinas, coloboma, and glaucoma and the cataract surgery went just fine.

here is a great link where you can learn all about cataracts and the surgery:
http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/cataract…

and you should definitely talk to your ophthalmologist about the surgery.
