Corneal Transplant Surgery

Kristina Said:

After Corneal Transplant?

We Answered:

Really...after a corneal transplant, the only one who can give you any info on your visual problems is the surgeon who did it for you , or the ophthalmologist/optometrist who is doing the aftercare.

Even if the best eye surgeon in the world saw your question , he couldn't suggest a fix without examining you.

We Answered:

I know two people who have had this procedure ... and both of them say that their eyesight improved considerably with the surgery...and, had no problem with it whatsoever....

Jane Said:

How can my friend get some help getting a corneal transplant- financially mostly?

We Answered:

Tell hhim good luck. Most people can't get that surgery till they qualify for Medicare, no matter how long they've needed it. Our society has really developed a Catch-22 vicious cycle when it comes to damage that virtually prevents employment. You lose the job, can't afford the COBRA insurance, already made too much that year to get medicare/medicaid, can't work till after successful surgery, can't remortgage the house to pay for it but will lose everything if you can't find a job.
I hope someone has your answer!

corneal transplant surgery?

We Answered:

Consult your doctor for further information. Anyone in here who is trying to push certain treatments, home, herbal or any other meds could screw things up. Even as far as to make the surgery fail.

The following is from Wikipedia-

Prognosis

When the primary purpose of a cornea transplant is to improve visual acuity, the prognosis is dependent upon whether the rest of the eye is healthy. If it is, then it should be possible to recover normal vision.

So, if the rest of the eye is healthy the chances should be good.

Phone the doctor for specifics and go by what he says, ask if there is anything you can do and what to avoid. Swimming and so on probably isn't a great idea and wearing glasses or some kind of protective eye gear may help prevent any damage but like I said the doc is the one to consult, this is a specialised area and it's your eyes. Don't take advice from someone on here (ironic I guess).

I hope this page helps-

Thomas Said:

after a corneal transplant, does your eye look normal?

We Answered:

some do, some dont. depends on the type & extent of the injury.

if your cornea is currently opacified, then the "button" will be clear...sometimes that still looks weird.
