Cost Of Gastric Bypass Surgery
Rosa Said:
What is the cost of gastric bypass surgery in New Zealand and how long does one need to take off from work?We Answered:
metoclopramide is a medication given here in New Zealand to quiet nausea and vomiting. Never heard that it can help with weight loss. Also called Maxalon. Gastric bypass here is probably anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 out of pocket.I had laparoscopic gastric bypass in the US about 7 years ago, when I was 47. I was off work for 12 days and so bored at home I went back to work and probably could have gone back a few days before that! A lot of it is attitude. I was determined to get moving and do everything I was told to do, and DID. A month after surgery, I went to Florida with a high school marching band, and we went to a bunch of parks there and had a ball!

Does anyone know about the effects of gastric bypass surgery ? Also the cost?We Answered:
I too have put a lot of thought into this procedure. I plan to have it if I can't lose the weight myself after I am done having children.A friend of mine from when I was in high school had this surgery done a few years ago. She lost over 100 Lbs, she was very big to start with. Over the last 2 years, I think, she has put pretty much all the weight back on again. But it was because of bad eating habits she couldn't or wouldn't give up. My aunt says that even though she is over 400 Lbs she will never have it done even though it would save her life to lose the weight, she says that the risks are too high for her because of existing breathing problems she may die on the operating table. I myself am almost 300Lbs and have been heavy since starting into puberty. My husband's step-mother had it done nearly 2 years ago now and looking at the pictures from our wedding, a few months before her surgery, and looking at her now, she still has the extra skin but she looks a lot better now. Here if you are over a certain BMI provincial health care will pay for the surgery fully.
Hope that you get all the information you need before making this decision.
May I ask how old you are? You may not be old enough to be considered for this surgery if you are still in your growing years as it can cause more damage than help if you are too young. I do know that you can suffer from malnutrition for a year or more afterwards. I have heard suggestions to wait at least 2 years before becoming pregnant after having the surgery because there is such a risk of nutrition related problems it is too high of a risk to become pregnant before then.

cost of gastric bypass surgery ontario ?We Answered:
Insurance only covers these types of weight loss surgeries if the patients health is at risk because of being extremely obese. If you cannot get insurance to cover it for you, there are surgeons that offer financing plans to help with cost.Cost info: http://www.yourbariatricsurgeryguide.com…

Can anyone out there tell me about any programs that can help with the cost of gastric bypass surgery? We Answered:
Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if Medicaid share of cost will cover Gastric Bypass Surgery? We Answered:
I don't know if Medicaid covers it, but I'm feeling pretty doubtful. I did have a friend who was partially insured who received it--she had to pay out of pocket. Also, the surgery is not the end-all be-all. With the surgery, you still have to continually diet or you can very well gain the weight back. Anytime a person goes under the knife, they risk injury, infection and death. So I figure, if you have to do the work of dieting along with the surgery, why risk being cut into?
Here are the basics when it comes to weight loss: eat small amounts of low-fat, low glycemic (very little starch, flour and sugar) foods. Don't consider the traditional ways of eating (3 squares per day). Eat small (the size of your fist) 'snacks' every 3-4 hours apart--this will keep your metabolism humming, which is what burns fat. You don't even need to exercise that much if you follow that regimen. This is essentially what you'd have to do in terms of maintenance with the surgery anyway.
