Dental Implant Surgery

Seth Said:

Is there anything I can do to help speed up recovery from twilight anesthesia after dental implant surgery?

We Answered:

I'm assuming that by recovery you mean feeling more awake and lucid. There is nothing you personally can do to speed recovery. Staying hydrated and slowly starting to eat can help you feel more normal, but the drugs will leave your system at their own rate. The only thing you can do to help recovery is to speak to your anesthesia provider regarding the medications. Especially short acting medications can be used, or as few drugs as possible to keep you comfortable. Most people feel groggy or sleepy for the rest of the day after "twilight" anesthesia. Taking less pain pills (if perscribed) after your surgery can also help you feel more alert.

Can I go by myself for single dental implant surgery? I am having it done on my due date. How about recovery?

We Answered:

You should be fine going by yourself since implants are placed under local anesthesia. Usually the procedure is as traumatic as the extraction of a tooth. In your case since you had an infection the extraction was probably very easy. It is a simple procedure.
As to recovery, you should be fine by the next day. Again it is similar to a tooth extraction. Soreness might persist for a few days, however it will get back to normal in a few days.
I would avoid any hard foods the first day or two. If it is a front tooth you should avoid eating anything that would require using your front teeth(like an apple) until the gum tissue has healed. You can eat whatever you like, however try to chew with the other side and avoid any pressure on the implant area. If you would like to learn more about implants please visit the source page. Thanks.

I just turned 18, Can my mom still force me to have an unnecessary dental surgery? (dental implant)?

We Answered:

WOW!

Thank your lucky stars that you have a mom that is willing to pay for you to get a dental implant. They are really great and much more preferable to a bridge or false teeth. Tell her thank you, thank you, and thank you.

By the way, no you don't have to get the implants because you are an adult. Let's hope you make a mature adult decision and get the implants.
Of course if you are living under her care and her money finances your upkeep, you may want to do as she requests.

Can I fly after dental implant surgery?

We Answered:

Sure, pack you some gauze and pain killers. You should be fine, you may deal with a little embarrassment if your chin is still swollen from the surgery, but that's about it.

Is it normal for dental implant surgery to hurt post op?

We Answered:

It's probably not abnormal. Depends on a lot of factors. Was the tooth recently extracted? If so there may be some residual trauma from that. Is the dentist who did the implant competent in implants?
That will make a lot of difference. Is there a lot of swelling around the implant site?

Need more info to determine if your situation is normal or not.

Make sure you don't have an infection at the site. Was sterile procedures practiced like gowns, masks, hair nets, etc.

I've had three done and I don't remember any pain afterwards. If there was pain it was easily treated with over the counter med since I never had a prescription filled. I don't even think my dentist offered a prescribed pain med.

Mine was done by a perodontist who specializes exclusively in surgery and implants.
