Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Joyce Said:

How soon will you see results after the gastric sleeve?

We Answered:

Well if the way she is eating keeps up then she will just die. Her hair will begin to fall out soon, then low iron, then organ issues. SHe has stupidly put her body in starvation mode , they told her what to eat to maintain her health and now even after surgery she is still harming her body.

It will take 6 months or more to lose weight and she knows that. She sounds attention seeking.

A High Quality Hospital might be a better choice for getting a Gastric Sleeve Surgery than going to a surgery center or a clinic. In rare case of an emergency or medical complications a hospital is better equipped. With all medical specialist & medical equipment & services like blood bank, MRI, X-RAY, etc. at the same location. Look for hospitals that are accredited & certified by leading third party organizations. This increases the chance of stricter enforcement of high quality standards & client service. Finally resulting in patient safety & convenience. Medical Tourism Corporation facilitates low cost high quality gastric sleeve surgery at one of the best hospitals in the world. These include USA Joint Commission accredited hospitals in Costa Rica, India & Mexico. Some are also affiliated to top medical institutes in USA like Harvard Medical, Tulane Medical Center and Ochsner Health System. As long as your surgeon insists. If you question your doc, get a second opinion from another surgeon or your general practitioner.

Hi there,

The first thing you need to do is make sure that your Metro Plus plan covers bariatric surgery. Review your plan document (should have come in the mail when you signed up), talk with your HR department (if you receive the plan through your employer) or call the insurance company directly (phone number should be on the back of your insurance ID card). Despite the proven health benefits of bariatric surgery, many plans do not standardly cover it.

If your plan does cover it, there are several time-consuming steps to get surgery approved:
1 The local surgeon you choose must be in your insurance company's network.
2 They will probably require that your body mass index be equal to or greater than 40 OR that it be between 35 and 39.9 if you have a "clinically significant comorbidity" (health problem related to your weight)
3 You will have to prove that you have gone thorugh a clinically supervised weight management program
4 Present a Letter of Medical Necessity
5 Obtain a recommendation from a doctor who is not your surgeon
6 Obtain clearance from a mental health physcian (usually referred by your surgeon)
7 Obtain clearance from a registered dietician or nutritionist (also usually referred by your surgeon)

If your plan does not cover bariatric surgery, unfortunately you probably will not be able to get any kind of insurance to pay for it due to pre-existing condition limitations found in most contracts. The one caveat is if you are receiving the insurance through your employer. You may be able to present a business case for your employer to add bariatric surgery to your company's plan.

However, surgery can be made more affordable through a variety of financing options such as:
- making sure your surgeon buys insurance that covers costs resulting from complications
- surgeon payment plan
- secured and unsecured loans (brokers, direct lenders, credit cards)
- retirement plan loans
- life insurance loans

If you haven't already considered it, weight loss surgery abroad is another viable alternative. If gone about in the right way, this can be as safe as surgery in the U.S. and save you a lot of money.

I hope this helps, and good luck!

Jeff

Melanie Said:

will medicaid and medicare combined pay for gastric surgery?

We Answered:

Medicaid depends on your particular state Medicaid plan. You have to ask your doctor, case worker, or call the Medicaid office. Medicare would if your primary care doctor ordered it and if your medical plan offers it as a covered benefit.

Discuss It!
