Hallux Valgus Surgery

Adrian Said:

Post foot surgery?

We Answered:

If your doctor says it will go, I would trust him. He knows better and I'm sure he is right. It will probably take some time for the tissues to grow back to normal.

Cindy Said:

hallux valgus, what is the extent of the surgery and recovery like?

We Answered:

Hallux Valgus (bunion) refers to the collapse of the joint of the big toe with the joint rotating outward and the toe inward ,forming a bump on the outside of the toe joint . When it gets progressively worse , severe pain ensues and shoes will not fit .I had it done about three years ago and was amazed at the great results. It is treated by outpatient surgery under general anesthesia , The procedure takes a few hours during which the joint is repositioned by sectioning , then screwed together and recontoured . Following recovery from anesthesia you will be fitted with a surgical shoe and crutches to go home . I was completely comfortable during and after the surgery and didn't need any medication . I wore the shoe for a month or so and didn't need the crutches after the first few days . Normal walking after 6 weeks and all my shoes fit again ! I tell all my friends not to live with their bunions but get them fixed !!!

Gwendolyn Said:

a question for any orthopedist: i was diagnosed to have Bil hallux valgus on my both foot.?

We Answered:

Your doctor will certainly supply medication to relieve your pain. There are several operating procedures that are used to treat hallux valgus, your doctor will certainly chose the one most suitable for you. I am not familiar with your case, but most of my patients walk with the aid of crutches the 1st day after surgery (weight bearing as tolerated by pain). There are many complications (infection, mal-union, non-union), as in every operation, but you should not worry about them. Do exactly as your doctor advises you and I am sure you'll be fine! Good luck.

We Answered:

Well listen to your Dr for sure.I've had 7 foot operations and I know it's hard, but it will be worth it later.Do you have any pins or rods?
Foot/toe surgery is quite painful healing.I feel for you.
If you are asking what you can do after 3 days I would call and ask....did he not give you instructions before you left the hospital?
Good Luck with that.

Michelle Said:

What is called casting? Please tell me.?

We Answered:

Casting simply means that he'll be putting you on a cast, probably on your foot or maybe just on your big toe and the inside edge of your foot.

And hallux valgus is just Latin for inwardly deviated big toe.
