Hip Joint Replacement Surgery

Francis Said:

joint infection after total hip replacement surgery?

We Answered:

If there is indeed infection around the new joint, the prosthesis may have to be removed until the infection clears and you would be placed on massive doses of antibiotics until the infection is gone. I hope this is not the case for you. Once the infection was cleared, a new prosthetic device would be implanted. I hope that, if you do have an infection around the joint, that it will clear without removal of the hardware. Since it has been more than a month since your surgery, I believe that any infection might be considered a "late" occurence (but click on the links below for more).

What is the cost of hip replacement surgery?

We Answered:

Two of my patients got hip surgery in India through one company called forerunners healthcare. One was a candidate for total hip replacement and the other was a candidate for hip resurgacing.
Both are doing extremely fine since 1 year.

I strongly recommend you to get your hip surgery in India. You will save lots of money.Orthopaedic surgery is very cheap in India. This company is very famous in India that arranges orthopaedic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your hip surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin also got her knee replacement surgery for in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Hip replacements for Labradors? Preferably in India. Please help. ?

We Answered:

Poor baby:( I am sorry but I don't know what kind of treatment is available in India. Maybe you could travel to the U.S. to have it done? Or somewhere closer? 11 years is getting up there for a lab.

How to keep spine and head erect.I have hip joint replacement problem since 84 but no surgery till date.?

We Answered:

Talk to a chiropractor to see if he can help with the alignment. Physical therapist could give you exercises to help with keeping head and spine erect.

Does pain near my hip joint while walking mean that there is a big problem?

We Answered:

Maybe, but you're jumping way ahead of yourself here. First, if this pain has become chronic, you need to get it checked out. Your primary care doc is a good place to start. Plain xrays will probably be the first thing s/he looks at. If the cause of your pain is osteoarthritis, the xrays will likely show that. So do yourself a favor and find out what the problem is before you start worrying about hip replacement. Once you and your doc know what the problem is, you can actively deal with it. Personally I don't think muscle pain is a normal part of "old age". There's nothing normal about pain.

I've had both hips replaced because of severe, advanced osteoarthritis. Ten years elapsed between my first clue that something was wrong (pain when I walked too much or stood too much) and the surgeries that finally fixed the problem. During those 10 years I tried several strategies to keep me on my feet. Those strategies included daily NSAIDS; taking daily doses of what I now consider useless, expensive supplements (specifically glucosamine/condroitin); not walking so much; physical therapy exercises done daily; quitting my job because I couldn't get through the day any more; and finally resorting to using a cane to be able to walk.

Since the surgeries (done several months apart) I am literally back on my feet, can walk miles with no pain, need no pain meds or cane and generally have my life back.

Carla Said:

how many times surgery is needed if a person has his first hip joint replacement at the age of 30 yrs?

We Answered:

Depends how the 30 year old takes care of himself. If he abuses it sure he will have to go in for another. If he takes care of himself it might last for some time, maybe all his life.
I know some rodeo guys who has all sorts of things replaced, and they were young!
