Inguinal Hernia Surgery

Cindy Said:

How much would a dog inguinal hernia surgery cost?

We Answered:

It shouldn't matter, you should have it done no matter what. Call and ask your vet's office.

Gerald Said:

Has anyone's baby been in for inguinal hernia surgery?

We Answered:

good question,

I was an or tech for 9 years and apart from surgery for real serious conditions I don't recall many real young children coming in.

but to answer your question. An inquinal hernia is a weaking in the muscel wall that allows something inside to push through.

Now the something can be a number of different things. You have a layer of fat in there that may have pushed into the opening and plugged it. That can be revealed with a cat/CT scan or an MRI

Also, some people live for years, with active hard working lives as the fat has filled the hole that is there.

monitor you kid, ( i be you never take your eyes off) and if he has some sudden change to him or the bulge suddenly gets huge, take him back without skipping a heart beat.

the surgery is routine, for his size it takes a bit, adults seemed to take about 20 minutes
though it could take a bit longer

it is very routine, very in and out.

you might ask about what mesh they are using, when I was there it was marlex. i'm told they have even better stuff now.

but it has been while since I was in an OR,

I wish you the best

What are possible complications of an inguinal hernia surgery?

We Answered:

Anytime you work in the abdomen, there is the possibility that you will form adhesions. That's an area of scar tissue that sticks things together where they shouldn't be sticking. It happens, and there really isn't much you can do to predict it or prevent it. You should just go see the doctor again, and have it checked out. If they suspect adhesions, you will have a choice to make. Adhesions most often will either break or stretch with time, but for those which don't or which make life miserable- they can do a laproscopy to locate them and release them. That solves the problem. You should not have a new tear, as the mesh should prevent that happening. But you also should not continue to have pain. So just see the doctor again, and have it looked at.

How much does inguinal hernia surgery cost?

We Answered:

did the doctor tell you how much s/he charges ? usually the surgeon gets a fee and then there would be a hospital fee , the anesthesia doctor gets a fee. i would ask him if he does perform the surgery lapro because you recover quicker . less time in hospital , will mean less money. it is also means you can probably go back to work faster . lapro is a newer technique and some doctors don't know it so they tell you they will do the old fashioned way. sometimes lapro costs more money. i know that with one of my surgeries the insurance company preferred that it be done traditional because it was more cost effective. i think that "cash " customers get much better rates than insurance companies pay. Has never made sense to me. Good luck to you.
