Knee replacement surgery questions?

We Answered:

I see hundreds of people after they've had knee replacement.

Regarding the practice of kneeling: For "tall kneeling", most people have the mobility to do it, but whether they SHOULD do it depends on the preference of the surgeon. Most say "You can, but if you want it to last longer, don't." As far as kneeling with "butt on heels", I would say the vast majority of people do not obtain enough mobility to do so. Depending on the size of your leg, it requires 120-140 degrees of flexion...most people are between 110-120.

I can't say that lateral movement is typically a problem...it tends to be a focus later in PT, but I've not seen it to be a major problem...yet it will also depend on your prosthetic components.

Most older women (over 75) take at least 3 months for their engery, sleep and normal household activities to return. Things come in bits and pieces, but the "light swtich" of overall functioning tends to really kick in around 3 months.

Good luck
