Sergio Said:

arthroscopic knee surgery and acl reconstruction surgery?

We Answered:

They should be able to repair the acl even after all this time.

Bobby Said:

i underwent ACL reconstruction surgery on my right knee using hamstring semitendoniosis gracilis quad graft?

We Answered:

Hmmm. It seems like the pain you're describing is the same thing i went through. I had the same thing done about nine months ago. I thought it might have been something bad too, but no one really knew much about it. I'm pretty sure it's just the type of graft. It'll start hurting less eventually. I don't think there's much to worry about since i had the same pain and was cleared to start doing sports in 5 months, which is about a month earlier than the usual time i think. It's still a little sore if i press on it really hard, but it's now noticeable during excercise or anything like that. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery!

Is this Radical Knee Reconstruction Surgery the new fad..?

We Answered:

From what i have read and heard on the matter, they have used industrial strength synthetic fibre to replace tendons and ligaments, therefor those parts of the knee are no longer injured, it is only the attaching areas that have to heal etc, it is amazing all these knew medical techniques, why can't it work? look at heart ops, brain surgery, transplants, 50 years ago, they were considered radical, now they are the norm.

The french doc, has obviously done the op many times overseas, it should be ok, hope for Malceski's sake anyway.

Getting a knee surgery (ACL reconstruction), do I have to remove my underwear?

We Answered:

Since this person was in a video it would be necessary to have the "parts" covered. The attending surgical nurse will let you now what you can leave on. If this is an issue for you then discuss it with the nurse.

Edward Said:

I had knee reconstruction surgery and know I have pain arround the patellar tendon area?

We Answered:

Early stages may be treated conservatively. Uncommonly may require surgery to remove myxoid degeneration in the tendon. This is reserved for patients with debilitating pain for 6-12 months despite conservative measures.

How long would would I be on crutches after having a major reconstruction surgery of the knee at 14?

We Answered:

I had ACL recon, part of my lateral meniscus removed and had a partially torn MCL. I had the surgery about 2 years ago. Because my MCL had pretty much healed after the injury my Dr. didn't fix that. He fixed my ACL and meniscus, along with "cleaning up" some cartilage. He said that since the ACL wasn't weight bearing and the meniscus wasn't stitched, he didn't want me on crutches period. I had to walk to the couch after I got home from out patient.

So, you don't HAVE to use crutches.

One of my neighbors saw me trying to get in from the car and brought his old crutches over, and I ended up using them for about 3 days. After that I would only use them if I was feeling really lazy=)

If you have to have your meniscus repaired (stitched back together) then you can't be weight bearing for about a month. I had that done on the other knee- I was told not to put weight on that knee unless I was running for my life.

It just depends on what you have done and what your Dr. wants to do.
Not being on crutches after all the reconstruction hurt like hell. I wasn't physically able to walk that first day or two from the pain, but after that, it was just uncomfortable. I got through PT and my recovery was much quicker compared to friends who were on crutches though.

Good luck!
