Jim Said:

liver transplant procedure - liver transplant surgery operating room procedure?

We Answered:

..in liver transplant procedure, liver transplant surgery operating room procedure is important.

..because of a shortage of donors, you may be on a transplant list for some time. You may need to carry a pager or cellular phone at all times so that the transplant team can reach you if a donor liver becomes available.

Your doctor will likely do the following:

* Physical exam
* Blood test
* Chest x-ray
* Electrocardiogram (ECG, EKG) -a test that records the heart's activity by measuring electrical currents through the heart muscle
* Possibly other tests

Howard Said:

What are the instruments used during a liver transplant surgery?

We Answered:

I am not familiar with transplant surgery however most surgical procedures use similar basic instruments. These include scalpels for cutting, retractors for holding organs and tissue out of the way for better visualization (there are many types with different names), bovie (an electrocautery device to cut and cauterize vessels), suction (to suction blood and other fluid off of the surgical field), sutures, staples, forceps, scissors, lots of gauze.

Rachel Said:

Some questions about living donor liver transplant surgery.?

We Answered:

I would contact the local branch of the united network for organ sharing to find out what hospitals are successful with this surgery.
LDLT is more complicated than direct organ transplantation from a deceased donor. Hospitals don't like to do it because of the risk of complications to the donor (deaths have occurred in donors).

Firstly, you need to find a center that specifically performs liver transplants.
United Methodist Hospital performed the first LDLT in 1999, so I am surprised that it's on the list. Try the Methodist Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation. You may have gotten bad info from someone.

Texas Children's Hospital performs LDLT in children.

The medical expenses including work up, surgery and post operative recovery period are usually covered by the recipient's health insurance plans in most cases. There are also programs like the National Living Donor Assistance Center which provides financial assistance to help cover the cost of travel, accommodation and other expenses. This program also pays for postoperative trips including expenses for accompanying individuals.

Russell Said:
