Local Doctors Surgery

Michele Said:

Getting the pill, do i have to go to MY family surgery?

We Answered:

Your GP is the only one who is able to see you, as you are registered with them exclusively. But confidentiality is guaranteed with doctors, your doctor will not be allowed to tell your parents you want the pill unless you say they can.

If you still want to ask a different GP, you can move to a different surgery, but then you'll have to go to the other surgery for all your other health problems too.

Family planning and sexual health clinics also offer the pill, so you could go there instead of going to your GP. But I don't see why you can't go to your own GP. They've prescribed the pill to literally thousands of young women, so you've nothing to feel awkward about.

Finally, make sure you always use a condom when you have sex. As well as giving you extra protection against pregnancy, they will also protect you against STIs, which are very common, especially in young people. Make sure you use one for all sexual contact, from start to finish.

Tracy Said:

can u get checked for stds at a local doctor surgery?

We Answered:

You can get checked for STD's at any docs office. All they do is order the labs and you go get your blood drawn for the tests.

Jesus Said:

if i ring up the doctors what shall i say ? and what would they tell me ?

We Answered:

they'll look at you and make this face 0.o and pending on if you really are fat or just insecure they'll tell you to eat less and exercise more. if your really concerned you should ask your doctor for a referal to a dietitian, and talk with them to help you.

Debbie Said:

Enrique Said:

Student, need to register as temp patient at my local doctors but don't know NHS number?

We Answered:

they should be able to get your number from their system with the personal details you give or tell them the name of your old g p and they will post your notes and information over to them so you will be able to register and get prescriptions

Charles Said:

Do local doctor surgeries hold , keep and share information about patients ?

We Answered:

Doctors only share information if the patient is being treated by them both (unlikely if you're asking about GP serives). A hospital will have separate records on a patient to their GP, but the doctors will correspond to share relevant information if the patient is unwell and being treated by one of them.

Doctors may also share information with respect to infection. So, if a patient has been diagnosed with an infectious illness, their doctor may contact other doctors in order to find and identify people who may have infected or been infected by their patient, and inform them that they may be at risk.

This is an ethical dilemma with regard to confidentiality, and will most commonly be done with the patient's consent. But if, for example, a patient is HIV positive, their partner may be registered with another GP. If they refuese to tell their partner that they have HIV, and so either risk infecting them or delaying their treatment, their doctor may have to contact their partner's doctor without their consent, but they will inform them that they are doing so.

You may see your own medical records. If they are hospital records, they are stored in the medical records facility and require advance notice to be viewed, unless they have been accessed very recently. At your GP surgery, your notes may be immediately accessible. If you phone them and ask, they can let you know how to get hold of them.

Renee Said:

Re: ingrown toenail taken out? Is Hospital necessary, or can it be done in local surgery?

We Answered:

podiatrist or local GP can do it very easily.

They just take off the edge of it, so it never gets ingrown again.

PS it may hurt like hell that night.

If you could choose, I would say a podiatrist because thats their speciality, whereas a GP focuses on broader problems and didnt specialize in one particular area as the podiatrist did.
