Nissen Fundoplication Surgery
Edwin Said:
I am 17 and having Nissen Fundoplication surgery? We Answered:
Your Dr is best qualifed to answer these questions....surgery is different for each person, depends on the technique the Dr uses, the patients general health, what kind of insurance you have will be a factor in how long of a stay you will have in the hospital, providing there are no complications. Call up you Dr and ask if there is any information he can send you about the procedure, searcing it on the internet may answer some of your questions....but it all depends on the individual and their Dr.Bruce Said:

23 year old Marine Problems with my Nissen Fundoplication surgery, can someone help me?We Answered:
Unfortunately, any time surgery of the abdominal cavity is performed there is a risk of adhesion's. Adhesion's happen due to the fibrin produced during the healing process coming into contact with other structures. This is sometimes explained to patients but sometimes it is not due to the urgency or necessity of the operation. These days there are adhesion barriers that can be used to prevent them.Jacqueline Said:
Has anyone had both a gallbladder removed and nissen fundoplication surgery? We Answered:
I presume that your mom had laparoscopic (not open)surgery. Most patients are able to return home on same day or next day,and return to normal activity usually takes 1-2 weeks for laparoscopic and 4-6 weeks for open surgery.
Recovery depends on how the patient feels.Walking should be encouraged that helps .
In Nissen Fundoplication since a valve mechanism is created at lower end of oesophagus to prevent acid-reflux,it may cause resistance to food causing more air to be swallowed.
Patient may experience Gas-bloating sensation along with abdominal distension, nausea and flatulence.
Soft diet should help in this.
For 2 weeks after surgery patient is prescribed anti-acidity tablets along with usual course of antibiotics.
I think if they have not prescribed anything new, that means for them patients recovery is normal,so don't worry and discuss symptoms of your mom with doctor.

How much does nissen fundoplication surgery cost?We Answered:
Costs vary by location, surgeon and a bunch of other things. Surgery costs are not just one price - you have to pay for pre-operative testing, the surgeon's professional fee, the anesthesiologist's professional fee, OR time, recovery room time, medications, lab tests, and whatever other charges the hospital throws onto your bill. Not being able to vomit isn't usually a big deal, but not being able to swallow can be, which is one possible side effect of that operation. (I have a patient that has her esophagus dilated monthly because her wrap was a little too tight.)
I'd recommend consulting with a surgeon who does these (general surgeons and some thoracic surgeons do them) and asking about costs. Sometimes hospitals will give you a fixed rate if you don't have insurance, but that's the kind of thing you have to arrange in advance.
