SURGERY of any kind is way worse pain! I am 50% covered in tattoos. I was badly injured in 2 separate car crashes, 1 as a kid and 1 as an adult. I had to have surgery a few times. After all that, a tattoo to the ribs is nothing! It hurts but really, it could be worse. It's just on the surface and nobody is slicing into your flesh. I like being tattooed, now it's almost a soothing feeling. Don't let the pain scare you. If you really want a tattoo it's 100% worth it. It's also a GREAT way to celebrate after your surgery! Yea the tightness that you are feeling is more than likey due to scar tissue. What probally happened was when you landed funny you tore the scar tissue that was in there and when it healed up it healed up thicker than it was before.

They are called adhesions. Some people just make a lot of them; I don't think there is a specific name for it.

You can also get them from infections in the abdomen. Sometimes, they can strangulate the bowel, causing bowel obstruction or ischemia/necrosis, and then you have to have more surgery to fix that.

There isn't much you can do, except avoid abdominal surgeries.
