Spinal Surgery Procedures

Dwight Said:

Who has undergone spinal fusion procedure?

We Answered:

I am recovering from fusion surgery as I type this; I am one month post op. I had surgery July 31st, which has temporarily ( I hope) caused the sciatica to get worse. I possibly have nerve damage from years of nerve compression.
You are in physical therapy, and since you can't have nerve block injections, (what about epidural steroid injections?) then you might need to be referred back to neurosurgery to find out the underlying cause of the problem.
Have a talk with your pain management doctor about any other options.Talk to your physical therapist about aqua therapy so there is less weight bearing. My physical therapist suggested it when I was pre-op.
Spasms like these can be very disabling and painful, so hopefully you can find some help. Taking muscle relaxants make you tired all of the time. I personally got sick of feeling like that.
Why did you undergo fusion surgery?
Good luck and feel better.

Bangkok Back Surgery?

We Answered:

Was in Bumrungrad Hosp. and think they are very good for Asian standards. Most of the doctors were trained in the USA, and had very good experience, Getting a bit more expensive though.

What is XLIF spinal fusion surgery and is it safe?

We Answered:

For over 20 years I had suffered from increasing back pain, given up almost all the physical activities I love and was loosing hope. I knew some thing had to be done, but what? I do not know any important people who could help me out. I read an interesting article on Internet related spine surgery. After reading the article twice or so, I contacted Dheeraj Bojwani Consultants in India. After that call, I knew that I had to do something. I was to take a monster step in my life and travel to India for surgery. India, that is on the other side of the world. The level of care and detail given to each aspect of this procedure is astounding. The extreme care taken to avoid risk of damage to organs, nerves and arteries on the approach path, in addition to the careful and precise placement of the implant was impressive. I felt that no better team could be assembled anywhere in the world to insure my procedure went well. And it did! I feel very confidant that I got the best care available in the world at India. After a long and successful ordeal I find myself, for the most part, pain free. I still get sore with activity, although the doctors assure this will pass with time. , I hope you go through with the surgery and I pray that you will heal quickly and safely.

I am going to have surgery on my knee. The dr said I could have a spinal block is this a good idea? ?

We Answered:

this will definitely block the pain and you will be able to be awake throughout the procedure. There's no problems having this procedure done. The recovery And physical therapy are going to be painful and then you will wish you could block out the pain. once you finish physical therapy you will be far better off than you are now.

scoliosis spinal surgery, rod in my back from 1983?

We Answered:

Holy crap just the thought of that makes me cringe :( I have two rods in my back from scoliosis surgeries (very severe kyphoscoliosis and lordosis). The first set of surgeries was done in 1985, and were metal rods done by a doctor from Germany (Dr. Letherman in Louisville Kentucky). The second set was done 10 years later in my upper back in Spokane. I wasn't aware they used fiberglass rods before that.

Do you still have a specialist that you deal with? If so, I'd give them a call as soon as possible. That doesn't sound like a pleasant situation to possibly have a rod break or slip like that :(

Sorry I couldn't be of much help. After a fair amount of googling I'm coming up empty on anything that might be helpful too.

If you don't have a doctor that you deal with for your back, I'd suggest giving Dr. Osbold from Spokane Washington a call to see if he can suggest anyone. He was the person who did my last set of surgeries (at the Shriners hospital in Spokane). I don't know if he still works at another hospital out there or not, but I'm sure he could point you in the right direction.
