Thyroid Removal Surgery

Edna Said:

How long does it take to heal from thyroid surgery?

We Answered:

Healing from the surgery didn't really take that long...just a few days. I had thyroid cancer, so the treatments and being off the hormones took the most times. Each time I had a treatment, I had to be off the hormones for 3-4 weeks. You end up feeling like a slug. Nothing seems important enough to get out of bed for. There are lot of opinions on about.com. I got more info in that forum than anywhere else on the internet.

Thyroid Removal Surgery...?

We Answered:

1. I have a scar, but it's flat and pink (21 months post-op).
2. I had a raised scar that developed a couple months after surgery, but it is perfectly flat since I wore a silicone bandage.
3. I had that too, but it lasted a good 6 months. The nerves are regenerating, so that's why it's so sensitive still.
4. I HIGHLY suggest getting a washable silicone bandage. I used this type http://www.amazon.com/Cica-Care-Silicone… expensive, but it works wonders.

Can I have thyroid removal surgery and then relocate and have another doctor get my meds correct?

We Answered:

Are you planning on moving? If you are, you can arrange to have your medical records transferred to a new doctor who should be competent enough to take over your follow-up care. Your current doctor could even make a recommendation as to who that could be or how you could find one.

We Answered:

Olá,

Se a mãe vai fazer uma cirurgia á Tiroide, terá certamente alguma coisa, mas todos os tumores da Tiroide,são tratáveis.
O que penso é que também deverá fazer um suplemento Imutitário.

Has anyone had thyroid removal surgery?

We Answered:

I had thyroid surgery b/c of a suspicious biopsy, which turned out to be cancer. I'm happy to say that the surgery was not that bad. I had never had surgery before so didn't know what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised. The actual surgery took about 3 hours. Afterwards, I honestly felt fine - tired of course but not that bad. I stayed in the hospital for one night. My throat was sore, like there was a giant lump in it. That lasted for about 4-5 days. But never bad enough that I had to take any pain medication. Within a week I was pretty much back to normal. I didn't have any drains in my throat like the other person mentioned. I have a small scar on my neck but nothing terrible.

After the surgery I started taking thyroid medication and luckily haven't had any side effects from that. Because I had cancer, I also have radioactive iodine (a pill you swallow). I see the endocrinologist about every 6 months to check my thyroid levels. And once a year I have follow-up to make sure the cancer hasn't come back. But I feel perfectly fine.

Hope your surgery goes well too!

thyroid removal after surgery?

We Answered:

I had whole body cold chills, literally, my whole body would be shaking. Are you on thyroid medication yet? I've never heard of pale episodes, but all the things you are experiencing could be caused from the after effects of the anesthesia. It would be a good idea to ask your surgeon if there is anything to do.
