what's the difference between a YAG laser & an argon laser?

We Answered:

nd Yag laser is the standard for post cataract capsulotomy. It is a photo disruptive laser (does not heat tissue) that focuses it's energy into an extremely small spot and creates a small "explosion" inside the eye that is directed back toward the surgeon. This "explosion" mechanically opens a hole in the opacified capsule. By linking a series of holes together, the surgeon can create a large enough hole in the capsule to completely clear the pupillary zone of all optical interference. It can also be used for iridectomies by mechanically creating a hole in the iris for patients with acute closed angle glaucoma or a high risk of developing it. I recommend it more than argon for iridectomies because you tend to see more iridectomy holes "seal up" again follwing argon laser.

The argon laser is a photo thermal "hot" laser which by creating extreme heat in a very localized area can destroy tissue by burning it. Argon lasers have many more uses in the medical world than Yag lasers. In the eye, argon laser can be used to treat posterior segment problems of the retina for diabetic retinopathy, retinal holes, retinal bleeds, etc. More anteriorly, the argon laser is useful for iridectomy of the iris (creation of a hole in the iris to allow fluid from the posterior segment to flow directly through the iris into the anterior segment). This procedure is most commonly used for cases of acute closed angle glaucoma. It can also be used in the trabeculum of the eye to increase outflow of aqueous in patients with chronic open angle glaucoma. Hope this helped.

What is the cost of Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery ?

We Answered:

Many patients travel from United States of America and UK to get low cost of Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery in India. One of the most frequently asked questions when considering Removal of Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery is "how much?" and “what is the price of surgery in India?”

Oftentimes, patients choose their surgeon on the basis of price.
The cost of Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery is very affordable in India and costs are much lower when compared to the United States, UK and other countries. However, since the success of your surgery is largely dependent on your choice of surgeon, cost should not be your main consideration for your decision to undergo Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery in India.

I checked out the website of Forerunners Healthcare –which is the premier most medical tourism company in India offering low cost surgery in India to International Patients. They have served more than 400 International patients from across the globe (specially US and UK) to get low cost affordable surgery in India at the best Hospitals and Medical Institutions. And the general price of the Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery is as follows-

The Cost of Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery in India is $ 1,200.

http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com

In India, any licensed medical doctor can perform Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery. To avoid unsatisfactory results, it is best to choose a surgeon who has completed an accredited residency-training program in Laser - CO2/Erbium/Nd-YAG/Diode/Pulsed Dye surgery. He should have extensive experience in the procedure you will undergo. That’s when Forerunners Healthcare come into picture-helping you get the best surgeon for your surgery at the most affordable prices in the best Hospitals of India.

Your surgeon's skill can make all the difference between a good and an average result. Thus, although it is understandable that price is one of the considerations in your choice of surgeon, it is important to remember that the main consideration should be your surgeon's professional qualifications and experience.

Besides that you should look into other issues related to traveling abroad, which is your visa, passport, climate, cultural issues and language barrier. Although language is not a problem in India –as most of the people are well verse in English. But you should make sure that you have a reliable hand holding person to guide you through the various steps of getting medical treatment and surgery in India.

Hope this helps.

How do the eyes feel after nd yag laser surgery & how long does the recovery take are gritty eyes common?

We Answered:

All of you answering this question: this person is not talking about anything relating to LASIK. This person had something done to the inside of the eye.

A YAG laser is used for a couple diferent things, assuming I'm guessing the correct one, the dry feeling might go away in a few days. You can use some artificial tears, like Refresh. Anything will work as long as the label reads "lubricating eye drop."

If it doesn't go away after that, ask your doctor.

Joanne Said:

i'm going to have the nd-YAG laser procedure done on my eye and i have a few Q's?

We Answered:

I had this procedure done several months ago on my left eye, after cataract surgery in April, 2008.

I think you are worrying needlessly. It is a very simple procedure that only takes a couple of minutes. You do not stare at a laser, although there will be a spot of light the doctor will ask you to look at. The doctor will have ways to deal with eye movement, so don't worry.

Ask for a Zanax pill if you want to be more relaxed during the procedure. Take it about 45 minutes before the procedure. There is no pain associated with this procedure.
